It had been announced rather fortuitously that ‘win or lose’ there would be an open-top bus parade with the Kirkham & Wesham team to celebrate their already fantastic season (promotion to Vodkat League 1 and winning the Division 2 League Trophy). Just as well they won then !
I true Kirkham fashion no one had a clue what time it actually started - sources reporting kick off times from 5:30 - 6:30, but one thing was fairly certain - at some point the roads would be shut off so I got the train home. Hmmm… As I was coming off the train some silly little chav-tart swung her rucksack onto her back, whacking me in the face. I felt something sharp hit and noticed the bag was covered in keychains and badges. The resulting cut bled until I got into town. Thank God Mum always told me to carry a tissue with me.
Anyway, the town was starting to fill with people… and cameras. The press was out in force as were the TV cameras for the local news reports. They took so long getting their various shots that the parade moved off late but not before this idiot

had the opportunity to sell a load of airhorns to children. Children! These things were everywhere and so annoying that a few people went home before the parade went pass, and with my ‘quick to anger’ mood swings at the moment I was ready to throttle parents and children alike. There was no need for them and these items have no place in a small town celebration. Rant over.
Anyway, the bus finally pulled away at 6:45 and had to race through town, but at least it was nice to see the lads get the recognition they deserved for a moment. One hopes we get these crowds again on Club Day in a month.
Just
WIthout the air horns.
