I’m not ‘boring’. I’m English.
Sir Penguin
Oh, you think England is eccentric do you? America a little crazy? Australia nuts? I tell you they have got nothing on Norway.
The King Penguin, who was first made a Lance Corporal in 1972 after being made the mascot of the Norwegian Royal Guard and was made Honourary Colonel-in-Chief in 2005, has been knighted at Edinburgh Zoo. So, it’s Arise Sir Nils Olav!
I love this story for a few reasons.
- Penguins are the funniest creatures on the planet
- It makes perfect sense – when people go to be knighted they have to wear penguin suits so…
- and… that’s it – the rest of my enjoyment is just from the pure loveliness of the idea.
Other, than that I would just like to say congratulations to all the A-level students who got their results today. Life is coming at you in a rush now, I remember it well, decisions to be made and all that. But stop for a moment and just pat yourselves on the back. You survived.

Being part penguin myself (ChillyWilly), I love this. I had heard the story, but didn’t know there was a video for it. Nice.
He doesn’t like the sword coming down on him.

selma – I’d salute this penguin!
martymankins – He really doesn’t like that sword – mind you – he’s 3 foot tall, the sword is about the same – it’s like you being chased with a you sized sword. Sod that!
