I’m not ‘boring’. I’m English.
7.7
So, the other day, when I said I was going to exercise everyday? Yeah, I lied. I skipped yesterday. I have excuses, reasons, long and short stories about why I didn’t do anything yesterday but they would all be total poppycock. I just couldn’t be arsed.
Today, though, the Olympic porn was on repeat (I know I am not American but allow me this… COME ON PHELPS!!!), and the other sports being shown were interesting, sure, but not involving. I was making dinner but once the salad had been chopped, the new potatoes (freshly dug out of the ground by Dad – as if it was me – that would be gardening) had been scrubbed and put in the steamer… and the pizzas shoved in the oven (I was going to make ones a la Kapgar but the look I got from Mum – she was reaching for the phone to call the men in white coats) I had nothing much to do.
I was determined (DETERMINED I SAY) to not pootle around the internet today and I was scout-sited out so I left my laptop upstairs. I sat outside for half an hour with the cat while the fly spray we bought to kill the latest attack from the local farm did absolutely nothing and then… came completely unstuck.
Nothing to do. Being without job sucks. Hard.
So, I gave up, grabbed my iPod and got on the bike.
I am very happy to say that I lasted a full five songs (yes, I sing along at the same time) before wanting to die a sweat drenched death… and covered 7.7 miles (12.39kilometres) (I have no idea, BTW, if this is good… is it?)
But
I hurt my leg. It’s an ouchie.
Stretch beforehand.
Stretch.
Did I? Of course not. That would be responsible and sensible and all that nonsense.
My big problem is though that the playlist I created called ‘Up’, which was designed to wake me up and make me all cheerful and crap in the mornings… or whenever I needed making cheerful… is entirely unsuitable for working out to. It’s just not Up enough. So I need your lovely lovely help.
Do you have a song which gets your heart pumping, or that you use to keep you going when you are trying to do the exercising thing? Help please! Thank you!

I used to power walk to disco because the beats were at just the right tempo for a great walk!

Well, I’m not American either and I’m cheering on Michael Phelps like a total fanboy.

blondefabulous – disco… Now I never thought of that – time to dust off the ol’Donna Summer!
kapgar – Oh but she’s away next week!
Kevin Spencer – Olympic fanboy-dom… Yes, that really does adequately describe it! I think the only people not cheering him on are the other swimmers… and maybe the nicer coaches!

I couldn’t possibly advise working-out music, it would imply that I actually do work out!
(Not sure if this comment is going to work – I tried again the other day and I think it got swallowed – yikes! I really want to comment wahhhhh!)

Eye of the tiger on constant repeat. Has to be.
I am ignoring the olympics in the hope it will go away.

I like the new design, btw. And you should view vigorous masturbation as a form of exercise that you can do easily and continuously!

Have you tried working out to Underworld? They always get my pulses racing.
I want Phelps to get beat. Arrogant American swimmers just don’t do it for me. On our local news the other day they had a 13 year old who is faster than Phelps was at that age. I imagine that how he develops physically during puberty will determine whether he goes on to be a world beater.

Phelps is freaking amazing. I can’t believe he’s won so many races. He makes it look easy!!

I’m with Blondefabulous. Get the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever and power walk to it. You will be surprised how much you pump when Barry Gibb hits those high notes. I highly recommend it.
Oh, and totally with you on the Olympic porn. I’m wondering if Michael Phelps moonlights as a pool man. But if not I’ll take that guy with the tattoos from the French swim team and Sascha Klein, the German diver. Life is good when you turn on the TV and all you see is men in Speedos. I think that’s what heaven must be like…….

Penelope – Yes, your last comment did get swallowed. My hypersensitive spam thing decided you were trying to sell me viagra or insurance and ran you over. I have since rescued you and slapped that particular beastie down!
Dan – ‘It’s the thrill of the fight…’ Might get a bit wearing after an hour?! Oh, OH – you’ve just reminded me ‘The Final Countdown’!
Avitable – all that finger strain though? Ahhh… a little ache in the hand for all that hard work? Totally worth it! Good tip!
yourksdevil – at least we have one medal certainty for the 2012 then! Underworld – yes, have three tracks of there’s on my list – 8 Ball, Cowgirl and (of course) Born Slippy!
Julia – And all that on 12000 calories! Although choc chip pancakes… Yum!
Selma – SNF soundtrack pulled off shelf and on iPod now! If Phelps does moonlight then I think a UK/Australia working tour is required! Swimming and rowing are the ‘must see’ events… It’s all about water, baby!

I think ‘Second Toughest In The Infants’ would meet your needs. ‘Dubnobasswithmyheadman’ would be entirely counter-productive. ‘Beaucoup Fish’ and their live album ‘Everything, Everything’ are both terrific. I am rather surprised you have Cowgirl yet not Pearl’s Girl.

yorksdevil – have all the albums and tracks you mentioned – jus those three on the playlist! Underworld were so popular in my day, I suppose they would be retro now!
