Stupid Obsession

I have a small confession to make.

I am currently obsessed with… Neil Patrick Harris.

When I was a kid, young and with less spare time than now, one of my favourite shows was Doogie Howser M.D. I had me a little crush then and, yes, I admit it, forgot all about him until well… Starship Troopers.  He had been put into the pocket of my head of ‘crushes with three names’ with Robert Sean Leonard.

Now, with How I Met Your Mother, I love, adore and want desperately his character Barney Stinson (wow, how much does that say about me?) - I tried to convince myself it was just the ‘man in a nice suit’ thing that I have but love, want, adore…

And then Doctor Horrible’s Sing Along Blog… I knew he could sing, had it in the back of my head, and had seen it on YouTube videos (this one does funny things to my tummy) but holy God…

There were a large number of moments during the course of the three glorious acts when he really got me (a man who can sing really does it for me anyway) but I would like to share with you two particular moments.  The first verse (well, the whole thing really but particularly) of Brand New Day/You’re Gonna Die… the way his lips and eyes and the whole thing.  It just works well.

and the bit half way through (starting at 1:01) of Slipping…

but that may just have more to do with the clever music or the whole… I don’t know -these things are generally a little vague with me.  I remember once getting a little crush on a guy because of the way he HTML (he emphasised the ‘T’ in a cute cute way…

Ooo… and the shoulder action but in Freeze-Ray (no video).  Yep, I’m losing my noodle.

It’s a new obsession - well, something had to fill the David Tennant void.

  1. NPH is a hottie, and his boyfriend thinks so too! Are you just getting into the HIMYM series right now? I have been watching that ever since it premiered and between that and the Harold and Kumar movies…… sigh…… he is so hot. (even if he does play for the other team!) In the first Harold and Kumar movie…. when he’s all dirty and sweaty…. mmmmmm….. yummy!

  2. I was going to mention that he came ‘out’ a while back (just to save you some time should you be close to deciding to take some vacation to do some NPH stalking) but I see blondefabulous beat me to it.

I was very happy to see NPH in How I Met Your Mother. His character is one of the best on TV these days.

  4. I love all of the songs - Joss Whedon really is a genius, and NPH was the perfect choice for Dr. Horrible.

I’ve seen a few people say that the end was a bit of a downer, but it was basically a supervillain musical, so I expected it to end with him becoming a supervillain. Typical Joss, though, where he always makes it hurt!

  5. blondefabulous - Okay, so I haven’t seen the Harold and Kumar movies but hot, sweaty NPH? I’ll be back…

delmer - Oh, I know he is ‘a very content gay man’… doesn’t mean he isn’t hot and hetero-lust worthy!

Kevin Spencer - I’m not sure either but it’ll be a plus one or two by the time midnight rolls around!

Avitable - I loved the ending! Dr Horrible got his dream, Billy not so much - the last shot of Billy broke my heart. Beautiful. I can’t wait for the DVD (mostly because I can’t get hold of it on iTunes UK!

  6. How I Met Your Mother is a great show. And I did watch Doogie Houser when it was on. But NPH today is talented and current. I can see why you have an obsession with him.
