Day of Fatherdom

There didn’t seem to be much interest in the whole day to be honest. Worn out with events of recent times and gaining further details of Granny’s slide into giving up from Mum, it was hard to gee up enthusiasm.

Dad is one of those who dies not like a fuss being made, and not in the ‘No, please don’t make a fuss of me (oh, please do)’ way that I am.

But, we did the traditional things – bought Dad presents – which I left up to the brother (Dad’s only hobby is his allotment = gardening = thing I know nothing about.) and then took hi out for a meal during which we allowed him the honour of telling lots of embarrassing stories about us. We were all so tired we were home again by 8:30 and then it was pretty much falling asleep in the chair time.

I woke up long enough to write this and go to bed.

Yes, my life is this exciting.

  1. Our day wasn’t too much better. Wanted to take him to see Iron Man, it was out of all the close theaters and ended up seeing Kung Fu Panda. Wanted to get him a nice gift, ended up paying several bills that ate up all available funds. You get the picture….. crap crap crap! Good thing the kids made him cards.

  2. As I noted on my recent blog entry, i spent the day with my daughter. Father’s Day is more important to me as a dad then it was a kid, since I grew up being raised by a single mother since birth. It never meant much to me until 1992, which was my first father’s day.

  3. My father is in the habit of leaving the country on father’s day. It’ll be two weeks before he has the chance to properly enjoy his new slippers.

  4. I get the prize for leading the most exciting life ever. Me and me alone. Some weekends I don’t even leave the house. It’s my prize and I won’t give it up. So there. Hahaha.

  5. Blondefabulous - If only my father in any way enjoyed the cinema I would be glad to take him to see anything! I always end up spending to much as money is always tight around this time of year - but it’s the thought that counts right?!

martymankins - I’m very glad you had an enjoyable time.

yorksdevil - jammy sod. Not having to do the ‘deciding what to do on a Sunday’ thing…

Selma - you can have the Southern Hemisphere prize. The Northern one is mine, all mine.
