It was the St. George’s Day parade in Kirkham today. The weather was miserable but there were more people on the street than I have seen in a long time. It gave me hope. I was down there to take more photos for the scouts and so had to keep running from the back back over to the front of the parade.
For a brief moment I forgot how unhealthy I was and ran. It felt good for… ooo… five seconds and then the heart pounding and the shaking and the being totally unable to breath. Oh, and then the throwing up and the needing to lie down and then the sleeping for 8 hours.
Great. I really do feel ready for the scrap heap.
It was St George’s Day on the 23rd. Patron Saint of half a dozen countries and the Scout Association. Fought a dragon y’know. Feels just like the person we should be following.
My brain is not doing well today

Well, might I take this moment Bec to wish you a very happy St. George’s Day. Not coming from Christian roots, I had never heard of him. But I just did some research and noticed he was also the patron saint of Russia — where my family’s roots were planted during the “Great Russian Empire” — 1721-1917.
From what I read, St. George was really cool. I’m glad he was given sainthood.
Perhaps, in an indirect spiritual way, I owe it to him that my family fled from the last czar, Nicholas II, at the turn of the 20th Century. Had my parents been born there, they would have had to deal with Stalin, who probably killed more Jews than Hitler. Of course, it did help that the czar did kick my family out and told them not to let the proverbial door hit them in their collective ass.
If you ever saw “Fiddler on the Roof,” know that my family’s story was pretty identical to the Jewish people from Anatefka. The czar was a real MF — if you get my drift.

Saw Fiddler on the Roof, hell I was in it baby! Ah babck in the days whenI was involved in the the-a-tre dahling!
I was chorus but I shone… Anatevka, Anatevka, dadada dadada Anatevka! See I can remember the words… cough…
St George, though, total hard ass. Much better than Patrick who just chased snakes from Ireland!

BEC BABY:
WHY THE HELL AREN’T YOU STILL IN THEATER? DIDN’T YOU ENJOY IT. I BELIEVE A PERSON OF THE ARTS NEEDS THAT KIND OF ENVIRONMENT TO SURVIVE. I SAY THAT AS AN ARTSY TYPE MYSELF.
BTW: I HOPE THE SNAKES PATRICK CHASED WEREN’T WATER MOCCASINS THAT COULD SWIM ACROSS THE IRISH SEA FROM DUBLIN TO LIVERPOOL!

Loved it - once I get my voice back into some kind of order then I shall take the world by storm… probably. I’d just embarrass myself at the moment!

I feel you have a yearning to tread the boards again. Ah, Fiddler On The Roof - is that the one with “Matchmaker, matchmaker…make me a match?’ I love that song. It’s so nice to hear people were out for St. George’s Day. And you’re right, St. George was a tough nut!

Glenn - Thank you - you don’t know how much that means!
Selma - Yep, that’s the one with Matchmaker - I was nearly the understudy for Yentl. I make a fantastic old Jewish woman!
