Randomness When We Dance
Apr 20

I was going to write a rather raunchy and exciting post today but have just finished watching the BAFTA TV Awards.  This has put me less in the mood than anything else. Ever.  There was a glimmer of joy when Heroes won the Best International Series award but the bloody audience’s lukewarm reception of this announcement slammed my mood back into the floor.

So I, instead of entertaining you, am going to watch me some good TV and wipe the crap I have just had to sit through out of my head.

I will be back later.  Probably.  Or maybe tomorrow.

But I will be back.

I’m sorry, but Heroes is a marginal show. The powers make it interesting, but the dialogue and plotholes almost make it unwatchable for me.

Avitable - Move to the UK and see the unbelievable hogswash that is served up to us on a daily basis and then you will see one of the many reasons I like Heroes, and all the other ‘import’ shows so much…

I’m not convinced I trust the taste of a woman who doesn’t like Dad’s Army, so I had a look at the results.

Harry hill’s TV burp I approve of.
Gavin and Stacy is supposed to be good, although I’ve never seen it.
Holby City is a big pile of steaming poo
My name is earl is better than heroes
And I haven’t seen any of the others.

a bit lackluster I do have to admit

That was 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back!
I saw your Tweet about Harry Hill winning and was screaming “Yes! I know! He is terrible!” and he won twice??
“Cranford”, which was what the BBC do best, fabulously written period drama starring some of our most talented actors and actresses got almost nothing. Who votes for this crap??
    (Grumble grumble)

Harry Hill’s TV Burp is brilliant.

Heroes was losing me with its overly convenient character net; and then when they completely failed to kill off what’s his face at the end of the series, that was the final straw for me. I have no intention of watching series 2.

Dan - Harry Hill - maybe it’s a ‘boy thing’? There wasn’t one show on the International list that I don’t love, I really felt for Milo, Tim and Adrian when they picked up the award… Sigh… and the Dad’s Army thing is just I don’t like being forced to do anything and will pretty much instantly lace them with a veneer of hatred. I don’t get why a lot of British comedy is supposed to be funny…

Penelope - Thank God, I though I was going crazy. I’m beginning to thing Harry Hill must be a boy thing. I missed Cranford but you could put Judi Dench on screen reading the phone book in a plain white room and it would be entertaining. I’ll catch it on the inevitable repeat.

yorksdevil - Maybe I’m missing something with Harry Hill having watched a couple of his shows and hated them… but I thought his ‘performance’ screaming gibberish on the stage at the BAFTAs was just the icing on the cake. He should go back to whatever his job was before and leave TV to those who care enough to not take the piss out of people’s hard work.

From what I can gather his TV Burp is just an excuse to stand on the sidelines and heckle those with the creative talent he will never have. (This rant was brought to you by the ‘anything in ITV looses 10 points automatically’ part of my brain, and the number 1)

    Some good TV?

Top Gear? Graham Norton? Coupling reruns (I watch them over and over and laugh every time … our version of the show sucked royally.)? Torchwood (which is not the best Science Fiction show ever … but I watch it anyway.)

I can’t seem to get interested in Dr. Who though I can’t help but think being a Time Lord would be a cool job.

This is what we’re getting on BBC America right now.

(Somebody said I should try to catch episodes of Little Britain.)

delmer - Oh how I (rather weirdly) wish we got BBC America here! All our good show gathered on one channel! Then I never need hunt for the good stuff! What you see there is pretty much it. That’s the creme de la creme! And the promos on there are so much more exciting than ours!

I hear the US is getting it’s own version of Top Gear too… I’m fairly certain that’s going to suck. That show is all about it’s presenters. They will have to wake pretty early in the morning to find a better mix than Clarkson/Hammond and May!

Some Little Britain is good… some… not so much.

Ooo, it really is too early in the morning to reply to comments… I have no idea what I am saying!

  11. delmer Says:

We do not need a version of Top Gear. Part of the treat is hearing how Jeremy, Hammond and James respond to things in the British manner.

One of the funnier moments was when Jeremy was assuring a woman at a redneck gas station in the South that he was not gay. Few things sound gayer than a British guy saying he’s not gay in that situation. (No offense meant toward any of your non-gay Brit male readers … or the gay community.) That would have been totally lacking with Americans — even if they were in another country having a similar conversation.

delmer - Totally agree - I am a regular viewer of that show and I don’t particularly like cars (I mean obviously the Aston Martin’s are gorgeous but…). I loved the Top Gear/ America episode. Seeing Hammond get genuinely scared was,,, well… funny.

I don’t know who Adam Carolla is… but apparently he’s one of the hosts of the US Top Gear… Don’t worry - the new series of ‘proper’ Top Gear will be back in the Summer…

You think UK TV is bad. Check out bloody Aussie television. It’s all Neighbours and Home and Away. Not everyone in Australia drives a ute, says ‘G’Day, mate’ at the drop of a hat or surfs. It drives me mad.
