Let’s Talk About Sex
Yes, that’s the word. The scary word. (And, yes, a STUNNINGLY original title) The word that makes me feel so very good and horrible and ashamed and alone and loved and hated. Passionate and passionless.
I mean, come on! I’m the size of a beached whale. And not one of those ‘cute’ sleek killer whales either. Fat people don’t have sex, do they?
Well, not recently anyway. Sigh. But that’s an issue between me and my rabbit.
Anyway, why, you may ask am I talking about that which makes the world go up and down and round and round?
April (in the US) is National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (just so you know it’s National Pet Month in the UK) and that gorgeous cherry of a man Kevin Apgar is holding another of his Grassroots Blogging campaigns.
To take part in this campaign, one blogs about… hang on did I just use ‘one’ as a pronoun? What the holy hell is that about?… Oh well…
…one blogs about anything one likes, s long as it falls under the banner of ’sexuality’. It’s to promote a book and to raise money for a very very worthy cause - RAINN - Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network.
You can donate money by clicking here
You can read more about the Campaign here
You can buy the book here
And you can read Carly Milne’s (the author’s) blog here.
And you can read Kevin Apgar’s blog here.
For someone who, yes - writes about personal things - but not personal things this is just the challenge I need to step outside of myself and release the inner me and all that other stuff I have been reading about in the self help book I found on the bus.
So throughout the next month I will be talking about my sexual past, embarrassing stories abound, struggles and intrigue, drama and romance, fantasies and oh, sticky reality. I’ll also be talking about the serious stuff too - y’know, if I can pull my mind out of the gutter long enough.
So donate money to RAINN , show Kevin and Carly some lovin’ and go read the other participants blogs too!
Are beached whales different in scale to non-beached whales? Also, should we really be promoting Rape, Abuse and Incest? I was under the impression these were bad things.

I’ve just noticed that your blog is still operating on Greenwich Mean Time.

yorksdevil - Yes, beached whales are different in perception scale or something as they look bigger not being in their natural environment or something. Whales in the ocean are all sleek and able to do synchronised swimming a la BBC promo’s. Comedy Award in the post.
Changing the time now (I remembered the DVD player though!)

you ain’t no beached whale for a start, beached whales can’t write, do poetry or help me with my course work nearly as much. Mainly cause they just kind of sit there and the last thing you ever do is just sit there, in fact there are times when i wish you could just sit there and realize you don’t have to be all things to all people you can just be you and thats good enough. …As for the sex stuff, they say talking about it makes you heal, so i’m on board rip that band aid and confess your sins baby! I wish i had enough money to give money to that cause as well but i’m tapped out thanks to buying jack and all his vets stuff. Crap excuse i know. well keep your hands and feet inside the car at all times cause this mouth is going to be a rough ride…..scream if you want to go faster!

Karl - Wild, yes… Is so very hard fighting against my ‘No sex please, I’m British’ mentality…
Neil - According to the doctor’s I am a beached whale with a weight issue. i am Muu-Muu woman! Sins? I haven’t sinned in such a long long while… Having a puppy is an expensive expensive gig - mind you cats aren’t much cheaper!

Yes indeed, a popular title for the intro post! At least three of us used it.
I’ve now got four posts in draft form, and only the one actually completed. Tonight, *something* gets posted!

Simply Jane - I think you added a ‘baby’ to yours though showing at least a modicum of creativity! All of my draft ones are so hopeless I have now deleted them. Must write something good tomorrow to make up for crapness today!

You are not a beached whale. I won’t let you describe yourself like that. I can tell you’re lovely from your writing. So there.
A whole month of writing about sex, you say? Will there be a slideshow and a quiz afterwards? Whew. Someone pass me the smelling salts.
