No this isn’t some pathetic attempt to get traffic. I went to a dark place with chairs and lights and a big screen where there were moving pictures. I think they called it a see-knee-mar. Weird. In there I saw a film called I Am Legend.

The ’special effects’ were bad (the deer chasing scene at the beginning were laughable); there were bits that didn’t make sense; Dr Krippin?! (ah, yes, ze Breetesh they destroyed zah world?! It’s Emma Thompson a-bumbling! Run away!!!) But all in all not bad. There were bits that made me wince and there were bits that made me laugh for all the wrong reasons, but Will Smith - my God, he’s a good actor. He totally got me with the scene where he kills Sam, and the bit in the video (that sounds so wrong) store where he asks the mannequin to say hello to him had tears rolling down my face. He rescued this film from being totally thrown away. Had it been a different actor it would have been bargain basement ignore it time, but he’s a bit good him!
I wasn’t predisposed to like the film anyway - I wasn’t in a film watching mood - I was tired, cold and just wanted a coffee and a chat to my friends who I hadn’t seen in a while. Maybe it’s one of those that will sink in and when I see it again I will really like it… or really hate it.
Okay, maybe the CGI wasn’t that bad, I mean New York looks incredible. Ooo, blowing up the Brooklyn Bridge was stunning… oh wait, preachy woman at the end, but stunning shots of Vermont, but Shrek?! Oh God, I don’t know…
I’ll see a good film next week - Charlie Wilson’s War. Hanks made me laugh in the trailer…
I remember thinking bad things about this film, when I saw the trailer before Planet Terror. “A world where Will Smith is the only human? No, thank you!”
As for Charlie Wilson’s War, I find it difficult to watch anything featuring Horse Face.

yorksdevil - Even when I look at the trailer now (even after seeing the film) I still want to see the film… kinda. The animals look good in the trailer.
And re Charlie Wilson’s War I have a plan if Hanks starts to annoy me - close me eyes and just listen to Sorkin’s beautiful words!

[...] laugh in the comedy moments; in the serious moments he had me listening, really listening. Like Will Smith in I am Legend when he had tears in his eyes so did I. (The scene near the end when he fails to get funding for [...]
