Please Say Hello

No this isn’t some pathetic attempt to get traffic. I went to a dark place with chairs and lights and a big screen where there were moving pictures. I think they called it a see-knee-mar. Weird. In there I saw a film called I Am Legend.

I Am Legend

The ’special effects’ were bad (the deer chasing scene at the beginning were laughable); there were bits that didn’t make sense; Dr Krippin?! (ah, yes, ze Breetesh they destroyed zah world?! It’s Emma Thompson a-bumbling! Run away!!!) But all in all not bad. There were bits that made me wince and there were bits that made me laugh for all the wrong reasons, but Will Smith - my God, he’s a good actor. He totally got me with the scene where he kills Sam, and the bit in the video (that sounds so wrong) store where he asks the mannequin to say hello to him had tears rolling down my face. He rescued this film from being totally thrown away. Had it been a different actor it would have been bargain basement ignore it time, but he’s a bit good him!

I wasn’t predisposed to like the film anyway - I wasn’t in a film watching mood - I was tired, cold and just wanted a coffee and a chat to my friends who I hadn’t seen in a while. Maybe it’s one of those that will sink in and when I see it again I will really like it… or really hate it.

Okay, maybe the CGI wasn’t that bad, I mean New York looks incredible. Ooo, blowing up the Brooklyn Bridge was stunning… oh wait, preachy woman at the end, but stunning shots of Vermont, but Shrek?! Oh God, I don’t know…

I’ll see a good film next week - Charlie Wilson’s War. Hanks made me laugh in the trailer…
